The Online News Association is pleased to call for nominations for the seven seats open for the 2013-14 Board of Directors.
Participation on the ONA Board of Directors is a unique opportunity for digital professionals to help guide the world’s largest organization of digital journalists in shaping the future of online media and working to build a stronger industry. Board participation is a chance to grow personally and professionally, and to develop skills, experience and connections with a team of other passionate and motivated professionals.
There are seven seats open for election, with five incumbent board members running for re-election. Terms are for two years and begin Jan. 1, 2013.
Here is the breakdown:
There are 15 seats on the ONA board. Seven members are in the middle of their terms and not up for re-election. Eight members are in the second, or last, year of their terms, creating eight open seats. One of those eight seats is reserved for the board to re-appoint a diverse director.
To be considered for a seat on the ONA Board of Directors, you must be an ONA member in good standing, nominated by another ONA member in good standing.
Before you decide to run, please read over the following material carefully. There are very specific eligibility requirements and responsibilities that board members are fully expected to meet during service. Listed is the criteria used to decide whether to forward nominees to the membership for a vote, the nomination/election process and deadlines, and ONA’s mission statement.

Once you have reviewed that information, please fill out the following:
- Nomination Form (to be completed by the member who is nominating the candidate)
- Nominee Application (to be completed by the member running)
The nomination period closes at 11:59 p.m. ET on July 12, 2012.
Once reviewed and approved, the final slate of nominees will be posted on journalists.org, along with their photos, bios and vision for ONA as submitted during the nomination process.
During the period leading up to voting, nominees can reach out to members via social media or other communications platforms. Nominees also will be introduced at an open forum at ONA12, the ONA Conference & Awards Banquet in San Francisco, Sept. 20-22.
Voting begins Sept. 21, 2012, at ONA12 and ends Oct. 11, 2012.
