ONACamps/Training
We’re happy to share resources from our 2013 ONACamps, free full days of digital training, thanks to the generosity of the Gannett Foundation: ONACamp at AAN and ONA dCamp, Washington DC. We also partnered with Google for Media (G4M) to co-host events in Atlanta and Chicago. Keep an eye out for more ONACamps and G4M events in 2014.
ONA Local
Around the globe, connecting with digital journalists and technicians has gotten easier as ONALocal groups expanded, extending into the Middle East and Africa. This year, we welcomed to the family ONA Jerusalem, ONA Nairobi, ONA Atlanta, ONA Edmonton, ONA Phoenix, ONA at UGA and ONA/SPJ DePaul. We send a holiday hug to our ONA Local leaders, members and friends for their hard work. Connect with a local group near you.
For Journalism courses for ONA members
Our partnership with For Journalism means free coding and data courses from experts for ONA members. Courses available so far include Responsive Design, Django and Charting and Maps, and more are on the way. Not an ONA member? Join here to access the courses.
Challenge Fund for Innovation in Journalism Education
We’re now accepting applications for the $1 million Challenge Fund, which will award micro-grants of up to $35,000 to support live, local news experiments. We’re looking for teams that will hack the journalism curriculum with a diverse set of skills, members and creative approaches.
MJ Bear Fellows
Armie Gard, a multimedia journalist at Sun.Star Publishing in the Philippines, Ashley Lohmann, founder of Beyond the Bombs, and Kyle Stokes, a reporter at StateImpact Indiana, were welcomed as ONA’s third class of MJ Bear Fellows. These talented journalists under 30 received a six-month mentorship, a three-year ONA membership and an expense-paid trip to ONA’s annual conference. Look for the MJ Bear Fellow blogs in 2014 and check out the must-read posts from our previous Fellows. And don’t forget to apply in 2014.
AP-Google Scholarship
We awarded $20,000 scholarships to six promising students who are working on innovative projects that further the ideals of digital journalism.

Legal Affairs Work
We’re proud that we helped shape the federal shield law, known in Congress as the Free Flow of Information Act (S. 987), and joined dozens of legal briefs that supported access, privacy and protections for all journalists.
ONA Issues
We’ve been following important issues for journalists all year on the ONA Issues tumblr. Have an issue? Let us know. You can also connect with ONA on Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, and Google+.
