New 2018 WLA speakers and mentors

Keynote speaker Ann Friedman, CEO of Ladyswagger, Inc. and Call Your Girlfriend Co-Host, joins an impressive slate of speakers and mentors at the 2018 Women’s Leadership Accelerator. Other new additions to the program include Corey Ford, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Matter Ventures, Independent Filmmaker Geraldine Moriba, Heather Bryant, Director of Facet, Kristen Muller, Chief Content Officer of Southern California Public Radio (KPCC), P. Kim Bui, Editor-at-Large at NowThis, Raju Narisetti, CEO of Gizmodo Media Group and Sara Catania, Founder and Publisher of JTrust. The weeklong forum kicks off next week at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, where women in digital journalism will receive support on challenges specific to their careers. 

Opportunities to get involved in ONA18

It’s that time of year — we are now seeking applications from volunteers, student journalists and mentors to add their magic to ONA18. Each year we select more than 100 volunteers to contribute through four distinct teams: general volunteers who help manage registration and sessions, and the specialized social, audio and video teams. We also offer an opportunity for students and professional mentors to join the Student Newsroom and Innovation Lab and collaborate on conference coverage. Volunteers and newsroom participants receive complimentary registration to ONA18. Learn more about getting involved.

360 experiments for less than $500

Many small newsrooms don’t have the budget to experiment with new storytelling tools like 360 videos. Tow Professor of Visual Journalism Bob Sacha was particularly interested in bringing this technology to small news organizations in the New York City area that serve minority communities, including people born outside the United States. Through a Journalism 360 grant, he led his students at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism to collaborate with local media on 360 storytelling experiments with kits that cost less than $500.
