Tools for language preservation

MJ Bear fellow Subhashish Panigrahi’s OpenSpeaks project is a collaborative online community building open source tools to preserve indigenous languages. “Languages are not just a medium of communications, but also a gateway to knowing about a society and its cultural nuances,” he writes. Read his post on how a break between jobs and support from the fellowship led to a breakthrough for the project. If you’re a journalist under 30, apply for the 2018 MJ Bear Fellowship by June 28.

Be a screener for the Online Journalism Awards 

We received more than 1,000 entries to the 2018 Online Journalism Awards! We’re looking for a diverse set of volunteer screeners to kickstart the review process, helping to select the best digital journalism projects. Screeners represent all aspects of the industry, from reporters and editors to designers and data analysts. Apply by June 15.
