Let’s flashback to 2001 when the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation awarded funding for ONA to study the credibility and values of digital journalism. Online news was a new medium, and there were growing concerns about misinformation on the internet and conflicts of interest between editorial content, advertising and commerce. Media consultants Howard Finberg and Martha Stone spent a year interviewing and surveying journalists, academics, lawyers, marketers, technologists and online consumers for the study.
