ONA Local expands to Spain, Hong Kong and other cities

By on January 14, 2020

We are excited to announce the latest groups and their organizers to join ONA Local, expanding the program’s reach both in the U.S. and worldwide. The new or rebooted groups are in Columbia, South Carolina; Tampa Bay, Florida; the Twin Cities, Minnesota; Lyon, France; Hong Kong and Spain.

ONA Local is a global network of more than 100 volunteer organizers hosting networking and training events for local journalism and technology communities. These collaborative and resource-sharing groups help to connect digital journalism professionals in their cities so that they can push forward innovation in their work.

Recent events planned by the ONA Local network include a tutorial on digital security for journalists in Detroit, a women’s leadership workshop in South Florida and a training session on discovering and countering disinformation in St. Louis. As a cohort, ONA Local organizers also receive leadership training designed to help them lead innovation in their newsrooms and more broadly in local journalism communities, including building a volunteer team, hosting events and developing effective partnerships.
