We’re thrilled to open registration for ONA20 Everywhere, our virtual journalism innovation festival happening Oct. 1-16. We’ve designed ONA20 from the ground-up to be a digital experience — which means we’ve also given additional thought to how our registration process should work for everyone connecting from afar. We’ve also released the first version of our schedule, which we’ll continue to update over the coming weeks.
A few key highlights from this year’s all-new registration format:
Community Rate: A special, members-only rate
We’re incredibly grateful to the ONA membership, who support our mission and contribute so much to our community. As a thank-you, we’re offering 500 passes to ONA members-only at a special rate of $185 – more than 45% off the non-member conference pass.
Conference passes at the community rate are available for a limited time: through Aug. 25 or until we run out of passes, whichever comes first. After that point, ONA members will still receive a 35% discount on registration.

Special thanks to our sponsors.
Lower overall rates for both members and non-members
There are a lot of things we’ll miss about meeting in-person, but thankfully virtual events aren’t as expensive to organize and our sponsors are continuing their generous support, so we’re able to pass that savings on to our wonderful attendees.
Conference passes for ONA20 are less than half of what they’ve been for our previous in-person events. We hope that means that more people are able to join us and take advantage of all the educational offerings this year. Registration for non-ONA members starts at $350, open now.

Complimentary passes for financial hardship, volunteers and more
We’ve created multiple opportunities to receive a complimentary pass for ONA20 Everywhere. Visit our Opportunities page to learn about each, including:
- Speaking: Our Suggestion Box closed in April, at a time when many government officials around the world were issuing stay-at-home directives, so we wanted to be sure people still had an opportunity to pitch ideas to the conference. We’ve opened a call for 20-minute, pre-recorded presentations around specific themes that have emerged as key topics in 2020. Submit your ideas by Sept. 3.
- Volunteering: We’ve reimagined our volunteer roles to ensure presenters and participants have a good time, and to create the warm and energetic environment that makes ONA events stand out. Sign up to help produce our virtual sessions and create resources; volunteers are accepted on a rolling basis.
- Scholarships: Working with our supporters, we’ve created new scholarships for diversity and inclusion, financial hardship, local news and students and new professionals to ensure as many people as possible can attend ONA20 at no cost. Scholarship applications are open until Sept. 3.
Sponsor ONA20 Everywhere
We’ve been hard at work on a host of new sponsor opportunities for ONA20, including combining our exhibit hall and Midway spaces into one all-encompassing Midway – a futures lab for the best in the media technology, tools and workforce space. Sponsors have a chance to host programming, as well as take advantage of new products and outreach opportunities.
Visit our sponsor page to learn more about the variety of ways to connect with our community, and contact ONA’s Chief Strategic Partnerships Officer Jessica Strelitz at jessica@journalists.org for details on supporting scholarships, presenting in the Midway and more.
