Bringing climate stories to your audience
“Make it local. Make it relevant. Make it actionable.” That’s one of the key lessons on delivering news about climate change and solutions. With demand for these stories growing, we were pleased to host an ONA20 session to gather expert tips from Bernadette Woods Placky, Chief Meteorologist, Climate Matters Director, Climate Central; Frank Mungeam, Chief Innovation Officer, Local Media Association; and Edward Maibach, Distinguished University Professor and Director, George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication. The session also highlighted the importance of applying lessons from other crises to climate reporting. That includes allocating resources to cover more than one global crisis at a time, plus finding the climate connection in ongoing crises such as the coronavirus pandemic.
