Ten titles.
In two decades.
Amazing. Incredible.
Had we at the Hartford Courant not been chronicling each win of the UConn Women’s Basketball Team along the way in words, images and video, on our website and via social media, you might even say unbelievable.
But the Courant has been there — and our coverage of UConn’s 10th championship season pushed the limits of sports coverage onto different platforms and new technologies to maximize the user experience as Husky fans across Connecticut and the nation joined the Courant for the run.
We kept fans engaged and energized with game stories and in-depth analysis, with photo galleries and video interviews, with live in-game Tweeting and with social media coverage that focused not only on the team and the games but the fans as well. A special premium program – UConn Insider – was developed for serious fans and required registration or subscription to access. Historic photos of the team provided depth and perspective. Courant.com became the go-to destination for anyone interested in women’s hoops at its highest level.
As the season drew close to its unprecedented end, we began assembling a book that drew on the Courant’s history covering UConn. Minutes after the final buzzer sounded and UConn had secured its tenth title, we were reaching out to fans via email, social media and on-site promotion. The first run of the book sold out within two weeks.
There isn’t anything like being at the game.
But following the Huskies on Courant.com is close.
