ONA Charlotte: Workshop: How Reporters Can Integrate New Media Tools

  When

Thursday, Mar. 15, 2018
6 pm-8 pm

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA Charlotte

• What we’ll do
As a journalist, it simply isn’t enough to deliver clean copy. Editors expect writers to be able shoot video, take compelling photos and live tweet all while writing an error-free story that can be posted online. We live in a real-time world and digital audiences want the news in real time. Is it a tall order? Yes. Is it impossible? Absolutely not. You already have the tools. We’ll teach you how to use them with less anxiety. And perhaps, introduce you to a few new ones. Consider this course a cheat code to an efficient way to practice journalism in the digital age. This is an interactive workshop, so prepare to have fun. About our speaker: Stephanie Arnold, audience engagement editor at Philadelphia Media Group. She was the Virginian-Pilot’s first social media editor, where she authored the company’s first comprehensive social media policy and style guide for the newsroom. She specializes in social media strategy and is a thought leader in accountability journalism. She has been a speaker/panelist at ONA, American Press Institute, the Pennsylvania News Media Association, the Klein News Innovation Camp (previously BarCamp), the CBS-KYW Newstudies program for aspiring journalists, and the Acel Moore High School Journalism Workshop.
