ONA DFW: Creating a Process for Testing and Adopting New Tools and Technology

  When

Thursday, Mar. 29, 2018
6:30 pm-8:30 pm

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA DFW

This month we are welcoming special guest Heather Bryant, the founder of Project Facet, an open source software platform that helps newsrooms manage the collaborative editorial process.

We’ll cover how to approach finding new tools and technology and creating individual plans for for managing experimentation and adoption in your newsrooms. We’ll talk about evaluating versions of tools and figuring out when the free version is enough, when to buy and when it’s worth building something custom. And almost all good things come to an end making it important to talk about planning for obsolescence and what can be done to plan for when a tool or service goes away or you have to work through the process of switching to something new.

WE WILL HAVE FOOD! 🌮🌮🌮

About Heather:

Heather is the founder of Project Facet, an open source software platform that helps newsrooms manage the collaborative editorial process. As a journalist and software developer she is completely fascinated with the intersection between journalism and technology and class. Her journalism career started in Alaska where she worked on the digital side of newspapers, public radio and public television. She took a brief break to level up as a programmer, teaching software engineering in San Francisco while starting Facet. Last year Heather was a John S. Knight Journalism Fellow at Stanford University working to help newsrooms create and manage effective, meaningful collaborative partnerships.
