ONA SF: What Private Messaging Apps Mean for the Future of News

  When

Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019
6 pm-9 pm

An ONA Local event, hosted by ONA SF

Messaging apps have emerged as the fastest-growing method of news sharing, with peer-to-peer dissemination serving as a way to cut through the noise of traditional social media. But it has also spread rumor and misinformation, as users retell what they’ve learned secondhand and more malicious actors deliberately share falsehoods.

The promise and problems for journalism in a world where private, closed messaging communities are ascendant and misinformation has proven to change the course of history was a significant focus at ONA’s recent conference in New Orleans.

Attend this lively panel discussion with some of the Bay Area’s top tech journalists who have been covering this phenomenon along with technology innovators who are developing these transformational products.

*** This program is produced by ONA SF in partnership with Muck Rack. Our colleagues at SmartNews are once again generously hosting us for this event.

More details about the panelists will be announced soon! So RSVP now and put this important event on your calendar, and stay tuned for updates.
