The New York Times is expending considerable resources on developing content for digital news audiences. A leaked report on newsroom innovation was named “one of the key documents of the media age,” according to the journalism think tank Nieman Lab. So when Ann Derry, editorial director of video and television for The New York Times, spoke about video innovation at #ONA15, people listened.

Derry appeared at the conference to talk about The New York Times’ partnership with Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and independent journalists during a session on Creative Collaboration in Digital Media.

After her presentation, she sat down with ONA Student Newsroom to provide some addition insight into what journalists can learn from Times Video. Here are some highlights from the interview:

What has been the biggest change for Times Video?

How should news outlets initiate video innovation?

How does The New York Times collaborate with independent producers?
