Julie joined the National Press Club Journalism Institute as Executive Director in 2019. The Institute powers journalism in the public interest through professional development and press freedom advocacy. Previously, as Managing Director of News for McClatchy, Julie worked across 30 newsrooms to spread editorial innovation, develop strategies and tactics for audience growth, and lead a team of 20+ reporters and editors covering real-time news. Julie was a Sulzberger Leadership Fellow and a Georgetown adjunct faculty member in 2016. Julie joined McClatchy in 2013. Before that, Julie worked at the Poynter Institute for 12 years and at WRAL for seven years. She lives in Alexandria, Va., with her husband.
