Table Talks are participatory conversations that aim to tackle major issues in digital journalism. These collaborative hour-long blocks take over the conference on Friday morning, providing attendees the opportunity to engage with top minds in the field to explore new ideas and solutions to newsroom challenges.

What should newsrooms do to protect journalists from online abuse and support those experiencing it?

Abusive trolls are joining forces to intimidate, discredit, and silence journalists and undermine press freedom. Reporters from marginalized backgrounds, including women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ people, are especially at risk. Media organizations can — and must — develop plans and policies to help protect their staff and freelancers from hacking, doxxing, impersonation and other forms of abuse before it happens, and to support journalists who are actively being targeted. Join this participatory, discussion-based session, led by The International Women’s Media Foundation and PEN America, to exchange strategies for how to best support journalists experiencing abuse, whether you're advocating for change in the industry or shaping policies and protocols in your newsroom.
