Leinz Vales is a Breaking News editor for CNN's Live News Team.
Prior to CNN, Leinz taught public speaking at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey. He also had the opportunity to work for various news agencies, such as New Jersey Network, New York 1 and News 12, as a freelancer. His career in journalism had its humble beginnings in the field of education, assisting at-risk high school students and providing success coaching to college students.
Leinz's commitment to creating positive change has taken him to different parts of the world. He participated in youth empowerment summits in Beijing, China, and Moscow, Russia. In Croatia and Bosnia, he conducted workshops on significant global topics such as sustainable development, the influence of citizenry, and democracy. As a first-generation Haitian-American, he volunteered in Haiti after the devastating earthquake in January 2010, assisting orphaned children and affected communities. In addition to his global endeavors, Leinz is also a member of the New Jersey Air National Guard.
Leinz completed his undergraduate studies at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in journalism and media studies. He furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree from the renowned Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
