Part librarian, part journalist, Edward is all about preserving born-digital news. As founder of the “Dodging the Memory Hole” outreach initiative, his prime directive is saving the “first rough draft” of history that was created on a computer or sensor. In addition, Edward leads the Journalism Digital News Archive (JDNA) agenda which seeks to avoid the consequences of losing news content such as those foreshadowed in Orwell's “Nineteen Eighty-Four.” Using Theory of Change modeling, JDNA proposes to address the complexities of preserving born-digital journalism by recognizing and engaging the stakeholders and the systems they employ in order to define a pathway toward long-term, sustainable change.
