Jamilah King is host of the Mother Jones Podcast and the race and justice reporter at Mother Jones, where she writes primarily about how Black women engage with political power. Shortly after the 2016 U.S. presidential election, she began to report on how Black women across the political spectrum — from organizers and activists to political operatives and candidates themselves — sought and maintained a foothold in America’s democratic experiment. Early subjects included then-newly elected Senator Kamala Harris, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, and gun safety advocate Lucy McBath. Previously, Jamilah was a senior staff writer at Mic.com, where wrote about the formation of the Movement for Black Lives. As senior editor at Colorlines, a racial justice non-profit, she covered the intersections of race and tech policy, and also maintained an arts and culture blog of creative resistance during the Obama presidency.
