Jillian Smith is a graduate student at Murray State University, pursuing a master’s in Public Relations. Smith also received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Journalism in 2022, also at Murray State.
She has worked for her college paper, The Murray State News, for three years. Starting as a staff writer, she has made her way up to Editor-in-Chief and News Editor. In her role, she has covered the COVID-19 pandemic, education, Kentucky politics, and mental health. Smith also works for the Associated Press as a County Election Stringer, where she calls in election results for her county.
She enjoys reading and writing about how bills can impact certain communities within the state of Kentucky, which led her to the journalism field.
Smith will graduate in May 2023. She plans to move to Lexington, Kentucky to work for an online organization and eventually cover politics in the state.
In her free time, Smith enjoys reading, drinking coffee and playing with her dog, Eddie.
