I am a freshman at Xavier University of Louisiana and hail from Jackson, Mississippi. Since I was young, I have always seen writing as the ability to tell a story and put someone else in your shoes through printed words. However, what piqued my interest was how writing also is able to share someone else’s perspective. My understanding and interest in those abilities led me to join my high school’s newspaper. Being on the newspaper staff, I found myself becoming a fast learner as well as a quick-thinker and enjoyed every minute of it. So, when I entered my senior year of high school, deciding to make my college major Mass Communication was an easy choice. It seemed to be the perfect fit as I now saw the potential for me to have a career in journalism. Now, as I enter my sophomore year of college, I am sure that a career in journalism is for me as I have had the privilege to share so many fascinating stories. For all the lows I have experienced during stressful times, there are so many highs that resulted from me being able to share the stories of communities with my peers.
