Madison O’Connor is a senior at Michigan State University pursuing degrees in journalism and user experience design. She’s also the incoming editor-in-chief of The State News, the university’s independent student newspaper. This summer, Madison interned at the Naples Daily News in Naples, Florida. She has also interned at the Lansing State Journal and The Grand Rapids Press, both Michigan papers. Prior to her internships, Madison worked at The State News as the campus news editor, multimedia reporter and lead reporter on MSU’s administration and the criminal cases related to Larry Nassar, a serial child molester who worked for USA Gymnastics and the university. During the past two years, Madison has had a growing interest in innovative storytelling. She began studying UX design, web design and graphic/visual design to learn more about how to craft digital experiences for readers. Madison is looking forward to soaking up all she can from ONA19 and is excited to be a part of the Student Newsroom!
