Samanthi Dissanayake is the Asia editor for the BBC News website overseeing the digital, social and video stories out of Asia. She started off working for the political and cultural monthly Prospect Magazine in London and made her transition to digital at the height of the dotcom boom, where she worked for some ambitious but doomed ventures. She joined the BBC in 2003 and has worked on its first user generated content hub, the Asia desk of the news website and as women’s editor for South Asian language services before moving to Singapore in 2015 to take up the newly created Asia editor post.
