Sarah Shenker is the head of audience engagement for BBC News, a role that allows her to combine more than 15 years of digital storytelling practice with a passion for the transformative power of data to grow audiences. Working with a diverse team of 10 journalists, data scientists and software engineers, Sarah leads the development of projects and tools to help drive editorial change in one of the world’s largest newsrooms.
She currently job-shares the role, which she hopes will help encourage more young women to take on leadership positions, and demonstrate to other employers that there is value in retaining staff with family commitments. Sarah grew up in Canada, France and the UK, and prior to her career at the BBC she worked for magazines and newspapers in the UK and Lebanon.
