Project Description
“The Next Louisville” is a yearlong audio and web series from Louisville Public Media focused on storytelling about — and by — young people in our city. Our Journalism 360 project would pair an 8-minute audio feature with a VR piece. Our series will cover issues directly involving kids in our community — from heavy topics like youth homelessness and the impact of the opioid epidemic to current events like the potential state takeover of our public school system. We’ll also spotlight young people doing extraordinary things, solving problems and setting our course for the future.
We’ll look at issues such as the 2018 midterm elections through the lens of Louisville’s youth and get their view of politics. Throughout, we will emphasize hearing directly from kids, teenagers and young adults. With our immersive storytelling piece, we will take audiences inside homes, schools, community centers and other places where young people live and gather, sharing firsthand experiences — including VR video taken by young people themselves.
