Storytelling from the Smartphone Lock Screen
September 17, 2016
The Quartz app was only a few days old when it sent a push alert that gave us all goosebumps: Author Harper Lee has died at the age of 89. “Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ‘em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Plenty of apps sent push notifications announcing Lee’s death, but Quartz’s did more than convey the news. It struck an emotional chord; it eulogized. Lock screens are growing as an exciting medium for short-form storytelling. Join us as we talk about the changing push landscape, and how messaging strategies have evolved over time; show favorite examples of the form; share tips on writing notifications that sing and offer a glimpse at experimental new tools that are making push even more personal.
